What's the cause?

The Virginia Avenue Project mentors Los Angeles children and teenagers, teaching classes in theatre and other arts, tutoring them in academics, and partnering with them to create and perform original plays.

100% of participating children graduate from high school. 90% go on to college. 85% are the first person in their family to go. Correction! From the Project: "The stats on the auction are outdated - new stats: 100% high school, 95% college and 98% first in the family..."

As grants for arts and education have been cut, we are in danger of losing our centerpiece program, the One-on-Ones, in which short plays are specially written for each kid to act in with a professional actor. We take them to summer camp to rehearse, then return to Los Angeles to put on a show.

This program changes kids’ lives... and it’s not happening this year unless we can raise $15,000 by mid-March.

How do I bid?

  1. The tag lists to the right of the main page, also to be found here, list everyone who is offering under "seller," the types of services and items under "offered," and the fandoms sorted by media (tv, movie, etc.)

  2. Comment to an offered post with the amount of money you wish to bid, plus what you're bidding on if more than one service or item is offered.
    • If someone else raises the bid in a reply to your comment, bid again by replying to their reply with a higher offer.

    • This will continue until the auction closes and the highest bid wins.

  3. There is also a "buy now" option. "Buy now" can be exercised with the first bid on an auction.
    • Once "Buy It Now" has been exercised, further bidding is not allowed.

  4. This post has full information on bidding.

How do I pay?

The BEST way is via the Project's Network for Good link.

Other options are on The Virginia Avenue Project website.

If none of those work, you can Paypal Shellyvirginia [at] gmail.com.

Once you have donated, forward your email receipt to the person whose auction you have won, and comment to the post you bid on to confirm it. Thus we will be able to add up donations and let you all know how much money was raised. This is on the honor system, and we trust you to be honorable.

Tagging Posts

Tags must be standardized as much as possible so bidders can find the offers they want. Please write your tags as set below

Please check the format of the tags before making up your own. You can find the full list of tags here.

Tags must include:
  • your name (a pseudonym or LJ/DW/other handle is fine)
  • what you're offering (ie, fic, vids, baked goods)
  • what fandoms you're offering (if relevant)

Tags for offerings must be as follows:
  • offered: fanfic
  • offered: original fic
  • offered: vid
  • offered: food
  • offered: fanart
  • offered: original art
  • offered: clothing
  • offered: jewelry
  • offered: critique
  • offered: poetry
  • offered: music
  • offered: misc items
  • offered: misc services

Please tag your original post with SEPARATE TAGS for the media and the fandom if applicable (see below).

We realize that many fandoms have more than one name. We are categorizing them by media to minimize confusion without driving ourselves insane by trying to standardize the names of a billion shows.

Examples of media tags:
  • tv: capitol scandal
  • anime or manga: saiyuki
  • rps: lady murasaki/sei shonagon

Tags for fandoms must begin as follows:
  • tv:
  • movie:
  • rps:
  • book:
  • comic:
  • anime or manga:
  • game:
  • or other as noted below

If you have a fandom which doesn't fit the above categories. you may add it, ie, manhua: , song: , etc. If it fits into one of the above categories, please list it as such.

We realize that some fandoms exist in multiple forms. If you want to list, say, both the James Bond movies and the James Bond books, please do so as follows:
  • movie: bond movies
  • movie: casino royale
  • books: james bond

If there is more than one fandom with the same name, please use different years to distinguishi them, like so:
  • movie: casino royale (2006)
  • movie: casino royale (1967)

Please forgive our limitations and do your best with the tag system.

If you need examples, check out the tags at livelongnmarry.
